The Year of the Honey Bee 2011

'COLONY' at Botanic Gardens
on Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd April 2.30pm

There will be a screening of the film ‘COLONY’ at the Lecture Theatre National Botanic Gardens next Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd April at 2.30pm both days.

This documentary film highlights the collapse of global honeybee populations due to the little understood Colony Collapse Disorder.

It was directed by Dubliner Ross McDonnell.

HONEY from the Bee to the Table
on Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd May

The Westport, Connemara, and Ballina, Beekeepers Associations in conjunction with the F.I.B.K.A. are hosting this event "HONEY" FROM THE BEE TO THE TABLE. at the Feile Na Tuaithe Festival which is taking place over the weekend of the 21st May and the 22nd of May at the beautiful Museum of Country Life just outside Castlebar on the N5 from Dublin.

There will be active observation hives on display, bee hives of different types and even some supers of capped honey. There will also be demonstrations on the extraction of honey.

Video presentations throughout the two days will relay the prime importance of the honey bee as a pollinator, a converter of nectar to honey, a manufacturer of wax and a gatherer of pollen and propolis.

Come along and see and taste our wonderful Honey.

Also on display there is a wonderful display belonging to Gerry and Mary Ryan from Tipperary of all the wonderful types of Honey and Wax products and cakes etc

We also have Jane Sellers one of Irelands Skep makers demonstrating how the ancient craft of making Skeps with purple moore grass and cane and blackberry canes.

Members of all 3 local associations and members from the Federation of Irish Beekeeping Associations will be in attendance at the display to talk and answer any questions and show our craft to everyone.
